Selecting a Banner Image

The site's banner image is the wide image you see just above your site's main navigation links. Each chapter's name is added to the lower-right corner to differentiate chapter sites from each other. Here is an example:

  • Choosing a Stock Banner Image

IAAP provides several stock banner images that can be edited to display your chapter's name, giving your site some distinction from other pages on the Web Community. If you would like to use a stock banner image, you will need to visit the Stock Banners page, select which banner you'd like to use and email the corresponding number to HQ's Internet Communications Coordinator. The ICC will then add the chapter name to the banner and either upload it directly to the site and/or send it back to you as an attachment for you to upload.

  • Adding a Custom Banner Image

You might notice that many chapters have uploaded customized banner images that represent their chapter or geographic location. These banners are designed and created at the chapter level by members. IAAP headquarters does not produce these images. In order to use a custom banner, it must be sized to 954x180px in order to fit correctly. If it is not made to those dimensions, it most likely will not display correctly on your page.

There are plenty of free online image editing programs avaiable on the Web that can help you learn to create custom images, if you are interested in doing so. But we cannot provide support for any of these programs. Paint.net is a free image editing software with a pretty simple learning curve compared to programs like Adobe Photoshop. Pixlr.com also offers a free web-based image editor that will allow you to do simple editing/resizing of photos.

File size is also important to consider when creating a banner image. Your file size should be between 30-50 kilobytes, if possible, and 100k at the very most. Anything larger can significantly affect the time it takes for your site to load.

When your custom banner is ready send it to HQ's ICC for approval and to have your chapter's name added with our standard font/background.
