Now that you are familiar with editing a content item, we will want to update the Member Spotlight so that it features one of your chapter's members instead of the dummy text/photo that comes default. It is recommended that you update the Member Spotlight at least once a month in order to make the site look fresh and up-to-date. Of course, you are not required to use the Member Spotlight. If you do not wish to use it, you can simply open up the Member Spotlight content item and check the "Hide this content item" checkbox.
- Select a member of your chapter that has at least uploaded a photo to their profile to feature in your Member Spotlight. If you can't find one, now is a great time to encourage your members to update their profiles!
- Open a text editing program like Notepad to copy the necessary information to (Do not use Word because you may accidentally copy unwanted formatting onto the page, which can be difficult to clean up.
- Visit the member's profile page to get the information you will need.
- Highlight and copy (either right-click or Ctrl-C) the ENTIRE URL for the member's profile from the very top of your web browser (the place you would normally type in a web address). It will be a very long URL, similar to this: http://community.iaap-hq.org/IAAPHQ/IAAPHQ/Directory/Profile/Default.aspx?UserKey=d79b4137-03b1-49c2-862f-0ae85e5551f6. Make sure that the entire UserKey is in the URL or it will not work.
- Paste this URL into Notepad. You will need it in the steps to follow.
- Next, you will need a photo of the member. You can take a screenshot of their profile photo if you do not have one on file (see Working With Images to learn more about editing images). The optimal size for a member spotlight photo is 87px wide and no more than 120px tall. It is easier if you can adjust the size of the image BEFORE uploading to the site.
- Open up the Member Spotlight content item from your home page.
- Click on the default image so that you see small boxes around the perimeter. Then click the Image Manager icon from the editing icons at the top.
- In the Image Manager, click the Upload button to upload your image.
- Select the image you want to upload and click Upload.
- Your image is now uploaded to the Image Manager and should be selected. Click insert to place the image in the editing area.
- Click the new image to select it, then right click and select Properties.
- In the Properties window, you'll need to make two changes: in the Image Alignment and Margin sections. See below for recommended changes that will allow text to wrap around the image and give it some space between the image and the text.
- Once you change the properties, the image should now wrap with the text.
- Once the image is inserted, just type over the default text with the information you want to include about your member.
- The last step is to link the photo and the "View Complete Profile" link with the member's profile page. First, click on the image again to highlight it (you should see small, white squares around the border). This time, instead of right-clicking, you should click the Hyperlink Manager icon along the top row of editing options.

This will bring up the Hyperlink Manager. Here you will want to paste the ENTIRE profile URL that we saved earlier into the URL field (replace the default address that is there completely). Press OK. The image will now go to the member's profile when clicked.
- Finally, highlight the entire text of "View complete profile" and click the same Hyperlink Manager icon that we clicked above. Paste the exact same profile URL that we pasted for the image into the URL field again. This will link that text to the member's profile. Hit OK. Review your Member Spotlight and when you are finished click Save.
Congratulations! You have completed the two most difficult tasks and will most likely breeze through the rest of the setup.
